Blank Studio YYC is a cyclorama studio in Fisher Park, near Chinook Centre, built for commercial, fashion and product work. Strobes, LEDs and modifiers are included. Every booking comes with a host.

The cove
Shoot it from anywhere, not just straight on.
Most cycs are a single curved wall, so the camera has to face it square. Ours is a two-wall corner cove, curved on both sides and at the floor. Rotate around your subject, work three-quarter angles, and move the camera for video without the edge of the background showing up in frame.

Hosted access
Someone's here, and that's the point.
Most studios hand out a door code and leave you to it. Every booking here includes a host who opens the space, walks you through the gear, and stays on site for your session.
It's also why the lighting is included. An unattended studio can't leave thousands of dollars of lights out for whoever has the code that day, so they charge for them or don't stock them. Having someone here means we can.
Your host stays out of the way unless you want them in it. Add lighting design and gaffer help and they'll work the shoot with you. Clients can review shots on the 50" monitor as you go.

Questions
Is setup and teardown billable?
Yes. All time in the studio counts, so book enough for setup, the shoot and teardown.
Can I stay longer than I booked?
If nobody's booked after you, yes, at 1.5× the hourly rate. If there's a booking behind you, we can't extend, so book generously.
What happens if I cancel?
Full refund if you cancel more than 48 hours ahead.
Why is there always a host?
They give you access, walk you through the gear, and look after the studio during your booking. It's what lets us include the lighting instead of renting it to you piece by piece.
Can the studio be fully blacked out?
Mostly. There's one small window that's easy to cover. One side of the cyc faces a shared office area whose lights stay on, so four V-flats are included to isolate the set, and an 8×8 black scrim is available for $25. Your host can help set it up.
Can I paint the cyc a different colour?
Yes. Book a fresh coat ($120) at least 48 hours ahead so there's time to paint and dry.
Can I bring my own lights and gear?
Absolutely. Let us know ahead if you're rigging anything, running high-draw equipment, or using haze.
Can I load in heavy gear?
Yes. There's a back loading dock with stairs leading straight to the cyc. Let us know ahead so your host can meet you there.
